In Search Of Entertainment At The Mykonos Island

Mykonos island is a part of the Cyclades, a group of islands in the centre and the south of the Aegean Sea. Mykonos is the most cosmopolitan Greek island – the island which got fame all around the world, left Capri far behind and became even more trendy than Hawaii. During the last years it has been one of the most favourite places for many world starts to spend their vacations at. Prince Carlos, Madonna, Gina Lollobrigida, Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger and other stars visited the island.

Mykonos owes its fame to its unique architecture, exceptionally auspicious climate, archaeological monuments found in the neighbouring island – Delos and of course its divine sea. This is the island where traditional Greek style and modern achievements in tourism, like excellent beaches (including nudist beaches) come in perfect harmony. Hotels are well equipped to fit even the most demanding clients.

Each street is a picturesque scenery; each corner is a kind of a discovery. And everything comes in contrast: white houses, deep sea, colourful windows… Contrast is felt even in its atmosphere and the air filled with sea freshness. The island is full of life even at nighttime when numerous Greek taverns and international food restaurants are opened and discos and other entertainment venues are crowded with people. Loud rock music will stun you whereas quiet jazz will calm you down. Moreover, the island is known for its democratic and broad policy. This is the symbol of the free life.

There are lots of shops on the island selling various goods. There are also museums and churches. Mykonos is surrounded with small rocky uninhabited islands, many of which are perfect for fishing.

You can also use an opportunity to make an excursion to Delos – such tours are organised every day. The island used to be the sacred religious and cultural centre of the Cyclades as well as the whole Greece. According to the legend, god of the sun, Apollo and his sister Artemis (god of the hunt) were born here. Nowadays it’s a quiet island and the museum with lots of architectural monuments.

As for Mykonos, the legend says that its name derives from the name of an ancient hero, Mykons, Apollo’s grandson. It also says that the island was inhabited by the giants. Then Zeus came and killed them. Their bodies turned into stone and now the territory of the Mykonos is rocky.

What are the attractions you can observe here? They are: the church of Panagia (Virgin Mary) Parapotiani (this Byzantine church is located next to the port), the Little Venice district, Archaeological Museum, Aegean Maritime Museum and famous Windmills.
