How to Pick an AAU Girl's Basketball Team

[ad_1]

When I started playing AAU basketball, there was only 1 team to play for. Now in Memphis, TN, there are several AAU girl's basketball organizations to choose from. So how do you decide which organization is best for you and your daughter.

Ask around.

What better way to find out about an AAU team and organization than to ask someone that's been involved with them. Talk to players and their parents to see how the experience has been with the team. Find out what they like best and what they liked least about the team and / or organization.

Talk to coach and organization leader, if possible.

Find out the philosophy of the organization and coach. Is the organization about the development of players? Or are they only interested in players that are already highly skilled and talented? How is playing time distributed? These are questions you will want answered and come up with your own questions.

Find out the practice and playing schedule.

Normally in AAU, basketball practices are held at night and on weekends. Is this appropriate for you and your daughter at this time? And traveling outside of the city is involved. Some parents want to travel, while other parents can not travel. Also if your daughter is of recruiting age, find out if the team will be playing in tournaments that college coaches are attending.

Know the fees.

Understand what fees are involved. Find out if the parents are responsible for buying uniforms, paying travel expenses or helping with tournament fees.
Discuss if payment plans available.

AAU girl's basketball is more intensive and expensive than regular school basketball. That's why it is important to know the facts about the organization and team you are planning to be involved with.
