Facts About Hybrid Cars and the Battery Packs They Use

Hybrid cars have become the most popular type of vehicles these days. People are interested to purchase cars that are environment friendly and hybrid cars come in handy in these situations. Additionally, companies are also trying to fuse the style factor with green cars to attract more customers. Consequently, some people are hooked to hybrid cars.

Hybrid cars use an advanced technology transmission system along with other machinery. Similarly, the dual engines – one gasoline and the other electric-motor driver are built to perfection to avoid any breakouts or mechanical faults. Hybrid cars use battery-powered motors to drive the car.

That is actually a bit strange from our common knowledge of automobiles. Contrary to common beliefs, the gasoline engine in the hybrid cars is free from any complex mechanical systems and is just like normal cars. The electric motor-driver, on the other hand, is a new phenomenon and that is the reason people are ambiguous about it.

The motors of the Hybrid cars use battery packs for power generation. The number of battery pack cells, unlike common vehicles, is in dozens or even hundreds. This high frequency of battery cells further aggravates the complicated system of a hybrid car. There is no need to worry as these battery packs are not replaceable. They are made to last for at least 150,000 miles although in most cars the life of a battery pack is as high as 250,000 miles.

As for the structure of these battery packs, they are not made of Nickel Cadmium alloy as they are not the rechargeable ones. Instead, these vehicles use batteries made of NiMH. Unlike their Nickel Cadmium counterpart, they are environment friendly and are totally recyclable. Additionally, the NiMH battery would not cause toxicity as is generated by ordinary vehicles. Simply put, the toxicity would certainly be produced but at much lower levels as compared to an ordinary vehicle.

The most important aspect of any battery is its health and life. As mentioned above, the batteries have a very long life. As for the faults and repairs, hybrid car batteries are stronger than the ordinary ones and there is hardly any need of repair. Most faults are rectified during the initial testing, and the cars are delivered in an error-free state.

If a hybrid car uses electric motor – and they use it during ordinary driving – then the issue of battery malfunction arises in our minds. Some people fear that the battery might go dead if we make an extra use of the electric motor. This perception is actually wrong. The hybrid cars are built to perform equally well on both the gasoline engine as well as electric motor-driven. The only problem comes when you have to drive through steep mountainous roads where the use of gasoline engine is recommended.

Battery packs in hybrid cars are currently the best of the lot. They are also repair-free most of the times. Given these qualities, hybrid battery packs will become a big phenomenon in future.
